We recently welcomed Tom back from secondment in the United States. Please see below a short description about his experience.
During June and July I worked on secondment with The Wolf Group in Washington, DC. My time with The Wolf Group’s team allowed me to learn more about the US tax code, following the recent significant changes. Having assisted many cross-border clients at Pilot, I found this different perspective from ‘across the pond’ greatly beneficial. The Wolf Group is renowned for solving their clients’ complex international taxation problems, so it was an excellent place to gain further knowledge and experience in this area.
It’s often considered that specialising in Taxation Advisory limits your ability to work abroad. However, my time with The Wolf Group has blown that old theory out of the water. In an increasingly connected world, tax advisors with a knowledge of foreign regimes are valuable to cross-border clients. My time on secondment allowed me to gain a greater knowledge of the US tax system and the compliance obligations for entities and individuals alike.
International secondments not only allow advisors like me to experience working abroad – whilst taking in the cultural sights on offer – but also strengthen the bonds between the two firms.
It was a terrific opportunity.
