The Australian Taxation Office (“ATO”) has advised it will be obtaining sales data in relation to eBay users who sold goods and services exceeding AU$10,000 during the period 1 July 2014 to 30 June 2015.  The information requested by the ATO will include information to identify and contact the user together with the value of the sales made during the year.

These records will then be electronically compared by the ATO to other data held to identify non-compliance with registration, lodgement, reporting and payment obligations under taxation laws. The ATO estimates that between 15,000 and 25,000 individuals will be subject to the data-matching.
