We recently welcomed Craig back from secondment in Ireland. Please see below a short description about his experience.
“A once in a lifetime opportunity” is a phrase I’ve frequently used since returning to Brisbane after my secondment to Ireland.
For the past six months, I have been working for Pilot’s’ Nexia International affiliate Smith & Williamson in Dublin.
At first, working in a different climate, surrounded by unfamiliar work colleagues and learning different accounting standards came as a bit of a shock to the system. However after what felt like no time at all, I was used to the climate, surrounded by many new friends and had learnt new accounting standards which I implemented on a day to day basis.
A clear advantage of living in Ireland was having Europe and the United Kingdom at my doorstep. A short drive or flight away and I was hiking in highlands of Scotland, standing at the entrance of the La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona or peering over the Cliffs of Moher. Spending St Patrick’s Day in Dublin and watching the traditional Gaelic sport at the famous Croke Park was a particular highlight of my trip. I have never seen so much green in the one place. Overall it was a very rewarding experience and would recommend it to anyone that is considering an international secondment.
